THE PROBLEM of being addicted to drugs is a condition that many people do not pay attention to, and for a long time they do not notice or see how much it surrounds them, and how dangerous it is to their health and those close to them.

That is the warning issued by the private health center Affinity Health, warning about the dangers of drugs as the annual campaign of the South African National Council on Alcoholism begins, which warns about the dangers of drugs called SANCA Drug Awareness Week which starts on June 22 and ends on June 27.

Health experts complain that drugs are troublesome because if you use them excessively, they end up having a negative impact on your mind, especially on the part of the mind that controls the way you make decisions and how well or badly you deal with certain situations in life.

They also complained that these conditions cause a person to be mentally disturbed to the point that some end up not being able to do certain things for themselves, which forces them to be helped by those close to them by supporting them and taking care of them at all times.

Conditions that make this problem insurmountable:

One of those are the superstitions that people cling to, discriminating against those who have a problem with drug addiction, which makes it difficult for them to seek help, others are reluctant to listen to those who want to get clean about this situation, and decide to keep it to themselves. So supporting someone rather than judging him is one of the things that can help stop the damage from happening.

Here are the dangers of drug addiction and addiction:

  • It can damage certain tissues of your body such as the heart or liver.
  • It can make you have chest and breathing problems, and have a weak immune system.
  • It is tiredness, feeling depressed and other mental disorders.
  • Not being able to focus your mind on important things and forgetting easily.
  • It is the continued dependence on them, which increases the damage to the body.

There are ways to get things back to normal

Recovery is not easy, but it is a journey that requires time and commitment, and you should expect it to be difficult to achieve.

Here are some ways to help you

  • It is a medical aid.
  • Psychological counseling.
  • Support from family and close friends.

Watch for signs of damage

Addiction doesn’t look the same for everyone, but there are changes that you shouldn’t ignore, including fatigue, changes in the way you used to do things, withdrawing from your friends and family, changes in the way you sleep, struggling to deal with work and illnesses that are not explained. These symptoms don’t always prove this, but if they persist for a long time, it can help you to urgently find help for their cause.

Supporting people with this problem can help

That can be done by starting with simple things like just talking to the person with this problem in a way that shows empathy, avoid criticizing and judging them, and then encourage them to talk openly about situations and things that bother them. The support a person receives from family, friends, work and the community at large can help make them feel safer and more easily ask for help.
