Mamelodi Sundowns’ victory in the last game in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) has intensified the fierce battle for the league title between the team from Chloorkop who are second on the log and Orlando Pirates who are on top.

Sundowns won 3-1 against Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday, putting them on the heels of Pirates on the log as both teams have three games left before the end of the season.

In 27 league games, Pirates are at the top with 66 points, while Sundowns are behind them with 63.

It is hard to ignore that the rivalry going on in the DDC is not the same as the one in the Betway Premiership where the main squad of Sundowns is fighting with the Pirates with the aim of going home with millions at the end of the season.

Chiefs, who are defending the title, are in fifth place on the log following their displacement by Siwelele FC, who are now in fourth place with 50 points after 27 games.

What is worth noting about this DDC title race is that Pirates have no sign of stopping in the remaining games because Sundowns’ win in Polokwane has made it clear that this team from Chloorkop is determined to fight until the end.

This rivalry is also intensified by the fact that the Pirates’ last match will be played against Sundowns, which may turn out to be a win for them.

Another thing that is not surprising is that in the remaining three games Sundowns have with Chiefs, who have played an overseas trip in England. for being champions last season.

It is possible that the last game between Pirates and Sundowns will come after it is clear about the title or it will be the one that will decide the team that will win this season.

Upcoming matches for Orlando Pirates at DDC:

Magesi FC (April 25)

Chippa United (Women 2)

Mamelodi Sundowns (May 9)

The remaining games for Mamelodi Sundowns in the DDC:

Richards Bay FC (April 26)

Kaizer Chiefs (May 3)

Orlando Pirates (May 9)
