The Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal has started an independent investigation into allegations that the department’s spokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi, who has been named Chief Director of the department, and his wife, Mlazi District Director Metu Mahlambi, were involved in the alleged sale of job vacancies, following the broadcast of a video of them arguing.

The investigation follows the appearance of a video on Solezwe social media showing a heated domestic dispute between the two.

In this video, Metu Mahlambi reveals many allegations about her husband, including allegations of infidelity and alleged selling of teaching positions as well as sleeping with those who woke up looking for a teaching job.

“Why are you shooting at me, where are you going to go, to those with whom you spend the department’s money? After all, you shot me. Your teachers are lined up – I think they are the ones you sell the posters to and then eat them afterwards. The thing that makes you not want to talk in the papers about the posters being sold is that you are the one selling them,” said Metu to her husband.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the department said that the HOD, Nkosinathi Ngcobo, has noted with great concern the allegations contained in the video.

“The department understands the seriousness of these allegations that have surfaced as they affect the integrity of public administration and the trust of this department by the people of KwaZulu-Natal. “While the veracity of these allegations has not been tested, it is the duty of the department to ensure that a proper, honest and impartial process is started.”
