THE speculation about the throne of Mathulini that was contested after the Prime Minister of KwaZulu-Natal, Mr. Thami Ntuli yesterday gave Prince Mazwendoda Luthuli a letter authorizing him to become King.
This means that he is now officially the King of Mathulini after his father, King Pathisizwe Philbert Luthuli, abdicated a few months ago.
After the king of this place bowed down, there was a lot of noise because there were some who came forward to oppose the appointment of Prince Mazwendoda as king after he was raised on the day of the king’s inauguration as his father’s successor.

”It is in my hands to decide who will enter this position,” he said. When he left, he also said that he wanted to be king.
On the other hand, it emerged that there is another house that has raised the name of the king’s son, Prince Mazwendoda, who has been approved by Prime Minister Ntuli. The source revealed that the son’s name had already been suggested before the king was installed.

The letter written by the Prime Minister of KwaZulu-Natal reads as follows: ”This letter informs you of the decision taken by the Premier of the province, Mr. Thami Ntuli, together with his executive committee, to accept him as the King of the Luthuli nation. From 18 May 2026.”
The letter goes on to say that this office is doing this in accordance with section 8 (3) of the KwaZulu Natal Traditional Leadership and Governance Act of 2005.
“The government congratulates you on your acceptance and hopes that you will serve the public diligently, honestly and modestly.”
The king said that he is very grateful for the support he has received from his family since the beginning of this issue until now.
”I don’t want to lie, I feel very happy to receive this book,” he said. He said that he is determined to serve his nation faithfully and with great effort.
