The R&B singer Peabo Bryson, known for Disney hits such as “A Whole New World” and “Beauty and the Beast”, died on Tuesday.
He was 75 years old.
The singer was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his death, his family said in a statement.
The cause of his death is not known, but Bryson suffered a stroke over the weekend and received medical care.
The R&B singer released huge hits from 1970 to 2010, including songs such as “Feel the Fire”, “I’m So Into You”, “Can You Stop the Rain”, “If Ever You’re In My Arms Again” and “Reaching for the Sky”.
“Peabo’s voice served as the soundtrack to some of life’s most cherished moments,” reads the family’s statement.
“His music has carried generations through joyous celebrations, great love stories and moments of comfort and inspiration, creating a legacy that lives on forever in the hearts of those who love him and the countless lives he touched through music.”
Bryson won two Grammy Awards, in 1992 and 1993, for duets that defined a generation of Disney movies: “Beauty and the Beast” for the movie of the same name with Celine Dion and “A Whole New World” with Regina Belle for the movie Aladdin.
“Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Peabo was loved by the lives touched by his voice and generous spirit. His legacy and music will live on for generations to come.”
Bryson recently performed with Jeffrey Osborne in Georgia, USA and was scheduled to perform several shows later this year as part of his Golden Touch Tour celebrating his five decades in the music industry.
Bryson celebrated his 75th birthday in April and shared photos of the celebrations with family and friends on social media.
