Comedian Simphiwe Lizwi Shembe says that the way he acts when he is invited to events is different because he is no longer just funny but also leaves a message that is important to the audience.

Simphiwe, who has been holding it for years, said that he is funny but he also brings it up and talks to them.

“People are finding two people in one now. They don’t just laugh anymore, they laugh and the old people grow up because we have many boys who are 60 or 70. Which means that he is an old man who is not old but young,” said Simphiwe.

He said Simphiwe is funny but Lizwi won’t understand him and he can’t explain whether he is a person who gives constructive speeches or what kind of person he is.

Simphiwe was speaking when asked by this newspaper about the Gala Dinner in Comedy event he will perform at Gu Sports & Leisure Centre, Port Shepstone on June 25.

“The last time I performed on the south coast was before I had a wife (as there is) Ma Khumalo. There is a difference, I am not that boy who said anything because before I said anything, now I have to choose words beyond boring. People will find a comedian and a writer. Not all of us can be funny. Shkinkily is also funny, which means there is nothing different about you if you are a comedian but the difference is from the way you choose words. What you choose to say will affect whether people remember you when the night is over,” he said. Simphiwe.

He said Lizwi looks at things from a different perspective and speaks without fear of what people will say.

“The Word is not ruled by bread, but is led by that message that must be heard that day. That message may have ended the bread, but the message. We cannot hold the message. The message that must be heard by the person who came that day.”

At the event he will be performing in Port Shepstone, he will be sharing the stage with Simunye Churchboy and Zawadi Yamungu. The dignitaries will feast on food, music, comedy and have the opportunity to build relationships.

This event, which is part of the Offramp Experience, precedes the Worship Experience the next night at the same venue.

The Ugu Jazz Festival will be closed on June 27 in the same arena where a tent will be installed that shows the sky and is open on the sides.

Mawhoo, Olefied Khetha, Don Laka, Ernie Smith, Siphokazi, Mondli Ngcobo, Naledi Aphiwe, Mawelele, Danya Devs and others will share the stage.

Tickets for all these events start from R200 at Ticketpro, Spar, Pick n Pay and Boxer.
