CELE has been accused of embezzling money from four companies, which appear to be employees of the Municipality of Thekwini, the Azania Youth Action organization yesterday, which held a press conference at the Bluewaters Hotel, Durban.

The organization, which said that there is no political party affiliated with the one led by Mr. Lindokuhle Vilakazi, pointed out that it is a shame what is happening under the Durban Council as the money is being used carelessly, and in the end some contractors are not paid.

In this forum, Vilakazi revealed that they have filed charges within the council, the police and the Hawks unit but nothing is happening.

He said the companies he named are the ones who get more jobs and are paid more money than what they should be getting from this council.

He said that in their investigation they found that more than R2 billion was paid to these companies for other jobs that were not done.

What makes them stand up is that last month, contractors were filling the streets of Durban, complaining about not being paid, and saying that these companies have never been paid their money.

“We want there to be an investigation into these companies first. We have not gone anywhere to report this issue from the manager of Thekwini Municipality, Mr. Musa Mbhele, who also wants an investigation into the awarding of tenders. We went to the police and opened a case but we were referred to Klebe. we see it happening in front of us,” said Vilakazi.

He said they want to investigate different departments within the council, including the one from Supply Chain Management (SCM).City Integrity and Investigation Unit led by Mr. Jimmy Ngcobo and others that did not go well in matters related to money as well as the selection of companies that get work.

“We wrote to Ngcobo asking him for an investigation into this misappropriation of money in this way, and the way certain companies are given jobs. But he never did anything about it, we felt that it is better to file a case against them. We are doing this because we want to correct what is happening internally as the tender jobs are obtained by politicians who are senior politicians, which is wrong,” he said.

He stated that he is speaking like this, because he realizes that his life is in danger and anything can happen to him as he is being followed for revealing the news that he will go public about what is happening.

When contacted, the Municipality of Thekwini stated that it will not respond to a rumor that has no concrete evidence.

He said that in order to respond to this, he is asking for evidence that is consistent with the documents that reveal this corruption and that he will start investigating these allegations following the proper procedures.
