The NATIONAL Freedom Party (NFP) has taken the Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislative Assembly, Ms Nontembeko Boyce, to the High Court in Pietermaritzburg, with the aim of forcing her to withdraw its member Mbali Shinga.

The organization said the matter has been registered for hearing on July 30, 2026, because the Speaker is reluctant to remove Ms. Shinga from the Legislative Assembly. The Secretary-General of this group, Mr. Sunset Xaba, said that taking legal action against the Speaker is not against the court’s decision but they are following the Constitution.

“The INFP has always said that this issue has nothing to do with challenging the court’s decision. This follows the group’s decision to return Ms. Shinga to the Legislative Assembly of this province, which the NFP says the Speaker refuses to let her go. This happened earlier this week when the leadership of the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal ordered the leadership of the NFP to stop insulting the Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislative Assembly, Ms. Boyce, following the NFP’s anger that she was removed a waste of effort the latest to sack the Minister of Social Development, Ms Shinga.

The leadership of the ANC in the province was commenting after the leadership of the NFP lashed out at Ms. Boyceaccusing him of interfering in the internal affairs of the group.

The leadership of the NFP wrote to Ms. Boyce demanding that Ms. Shinga be expelled from being a member of the Legislative Assembly, but they again met with bullies.

Ms. Boyce said that she will not be able to fire Ms. Shinga as there is a decision of the High Court in Pietermaritzburg which prevents her from being fired as a member of the NFP.

The latest letter was written after a meeting of the NFP’s executive committee, where a decision was taken to dismiss Ms. Shinga’s request to challenge her dismissal.

Xaba said he left Ms. Boyce unknown, accusing her of interfering in NFP’s internal affairs.

“The Speaker’s Office should not be biased. The Speaker’s Office must follow the rules. It is not the duty of the Speaker’s Office to judge whether the panel that decided to reject Ms. Shinga’s request followed all the party’s policies.”
