KwaZulu-Natal Community Development Minister Ms. Mbali Shinga is still temporarily safe in office, as she has been given the authority to challenge her dismissal from the NFP.

The decision to give Ms. Shinga the right to challenge the decision to be dismissed from the NFP was taken at a meeting of the committee in charge of the day-to-day operations of the group at the weekend.

Ms Shinga being given the right to challenge the dismissal decision means that her position as a trustee is still safe.

The Secretary General of NFP, Mr. Sunset Xaba, said that they will establish a committee that will listen to Ms. Shinga’s request to challenge her dismissal.

“Following the goals of the group, and seeing the need to not have the feeling that we are doing things impartially, we decided to give him the right to challenge the decision. The committee will listen to his request impartially. This means that he will have the opportunity to answer for himself and it will be possible to ensure that the goals of the group are followed.”

Ms Shinga was convicted of ignoring the party’s order to support the motion of no confidence in the leadership of the Prime Minister of KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Thami Ntuli, which was submitted by the MKP.

Being given the right to challenge the decision means that Ms. Shinga will not be expelled from being a member of the Legislative Assembly until a decision is made on her application.

Dismissal from being a member of the Legislature would have meant that he was deprived of the position of trustee.

His dismissal would also jeopardize the coalition government in charge of KwaZulu-Natal. The NFP does not rule the king with its one seat in the provincial government.

The leadership of the NFP nationally wants the party to withdraw from the KwaZulu-Natal government and this will lead to an impasse as the ruling parties will be left with 40 of the 80 seats in the Legislative Assembly.

Meanwhile, the NFP also appointed Xaba to be the general secretary of the party.

Xaba has been holding this position following the dismissal of Mr. Teddy Thwala, who was elected as the secretary at the party’s 2023 leadership conference.

Mrs. Duduzile Nhlengethwa was appointed deputy secretary general.

This position was held by Ms Sithembile Msomi.
