PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa has indicated that he may file an application for the suspension of the work of the Parliamentary committee set up to remove him from office when he filed for the dismissal of the report of the Parliamentary team tasked to investigate the theft of US dollars from his Phala Phala farm.

Ramaphosa filed an urgent application at the High Court in the Western Cape yesterday, where he wanted the report of the team led by Judge Sandile Ngcobo to be quashed.

The team’s report found that it is possible that some laws were broken by Ramaphosa.

The Speaker of Parliament, Mrs Thoko Didiza, has recently announced the names of the members of the 31-person committee that will carry out the process of removing Ramaphosa from office.

The committee is expected to hold its first meeting within the next week.

In the court papers, Ramaphosa said it would be unfortunate if the committee could continue its work when it has applied for the report to be dismissed.

“Would it be a violation of my rights if the Parliament continues with the plan to remove me from office while I am still applying to have the panel’s report dismissed. I hope that the Parliament will stop for a while. If the Parliament continues, I will be forced to file an urgent application for a court injunction.”

Ramaphosa said the team was very confused during the investigation.

Ramaphosa said the team’s report was full of rumours.

“The report is full of unproven things.”

Ramaphosa complains that in the report there is a secret report of the Namibian police which is unclear as to how it was obtained.

The people accused of stealing Ramaphosa’s money are in Namibia.

“There is no explanation as to how the report and the recorded speech of the Namibian police were obtained. It is very likely that the report was obtained illegally.”

Ramaphosa said the team was giving itself power that it did not have.

“The committee did not properly understand its task and ended up doing things beyond its scope.

Parliament has announced the members of the committee that will carry out the process of removing Ramaphosa from office.

Among the nine members who will represent the ANC is the former chairman of the committee that investigated the allegations made by the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, Mr. Soviet Lekganyane.

The DA, MKP and EFF parties will be represented by their leaders in Parliament, Mr. George Michalakis, Dr. John Hlophe, and Mr. Julius Malema.

DA will be represented by five people, MKP will be represented by three people, EFF will be represented by two people.

The Good and PAC parties will not be represented in the committee.

This is because these parties each have a member of Parliament.

Both members of these groups are ministers.
