Kathu Primary School and the community in this town were plunged into mourning after a fatal bus accident on the way to a sports day.
A teacher from the school died in the collision.
The school bus and a truck collided on the N14 outside Kuruman in the Northern Cape on Saturday morning. Several teachers and other staff members were injured in the collision. However, the learners who were transported by bus were unharmed.
According to Carl du Plessis, the school principal, the provincial department of education will soon release more information about the incident.
Maroela Media has contacted the department as well as the provincial police and is awaiting a response.
Learners, teachers and staff from Kathu Primary School were on their way to Seodin Primary School for the rugby and netball finals in the Van Druten League when the collision occurred.
Surrounding schools expressed their deepest condolences to Kathu Primary School.
