The police have asked for the public’s help in locating the persons depicted in the photographs.

The police in the Western Cape have identified two persons of interest in the murder of Gerhard Kopatz (86).

The two men were caught on CCTV cameras leaving Kopatz’s house in Kampsbaai. According to Capt. Frederick van Wyk, police spokesman, the two men are considered persons of interest who can help with the investigation into the murder of Kopatz.

Neighbors last saw Kopatz alive on December 28 around 3:45 p.m. CCTV footage captured the two men leaving Kopatz’s home around 4pm on the same day.

Kopatz’s family found his body in an apartment at his home on Francolin Road on December 30. He was tied up. According to Van Wyk, the preliminary cause of death has been identified as strangulation. Two mobile phones, his laptop as well as bank cards were stolen from Kopatz’s home.

Detectives from the provincial police’s serious, violent crime unit have asked for the public’s help in locating the persons depicted in the photographs. The identity of the men is currently unknown.

Anyone with information that can help with the investigation is requested to contact the investigating officer, Detective Lt. Col. Adrian Pretorius, can be contacted on 082 777 8499 or alternatively Stop Crime on 08600 10111.
