ONE of the eight injured when a wall collapsed at the Nazarene church in Buhleni, Nanda, will be taken to the theater.
This came to light yesterday, when the Minister of Public Works and National Infrastructure, Mr. Dean Mcpherson, visited the church led by Mr. Mduduzi “Nyazilwezulu” Shembe.
Mcpherson told the media that a total of eight people were injured following the collapse of the wall on Monday, which is said to be 18 meters long.
He said that of the number who were taken to the hospital after the incident, four have been taken out of the hospital, and of the remaining four, one will be taken to the theater.
“We have just been told that one will be taken to the theater. We will go and see the other three who are still in the hospital,” said the minister.
He said the main purpose of his visit to the church following the incident was to discuss what had happened, so that a similar incident would not happen again in the future.
“We have just established a construction framework that is not only designed to look at incidents of this type but also to look at how they can be avoided,” said Mcpherson.
He said they want to understand exactly what happened at the scene of the incident and that is why a team will be established to investigate the incident in detail, he said they promote the registration of construction projects when they are in progress so that they can monitor them.
He stated that their regional office said that they will release their services such as engineers and architects to take a close look at the area where construction is taking place.
“Our job is to ensure that the construction sites are safe so that no one gets hurt or dies and that the safety regulations are properly maintained,” he said.
The representative of the church, Reverend Friend Nzama, said at the moment they do not know what caused the incident.
“At the moment we still don’t know what happened. That’s why I say we will have to do an internal investigation that will give us a full report,” said Nzama.
He said they don’t have working people (builders) but people from the church are working, working when they come to the meeting.
“They are not employed people, they are working people, as we speak, they are there,” said Nzama.
After the incident, some of them used social media to say that the building is no longer represented by people who have learned to build.
There are those who have pointed out that the wall has collapsed, as it is normal that if there is a building being built in the church, it should be built by ordinary members of the church. It is said that the members of the church go to the Nazarenes, build buildings, and when it is finished, they receive a blessing. Most of them stated that there is no engineer or surveyor who is making sure that the work is going on in the right way.
Despite these allegations, members of the church spoke toOf this country He doesn’t kick himself with both feet, saying that the construction work is done by people who know him. Those who are ordinary members of the church, help to transport things like blocks, bringing them closer to the builders who know the work.
