The stakes have been raised for the big horse race in Nkandla May Horseracing which will be held in Kwa Nontshiza in ward 5, on Saturday from 9 am.
Last year the winning horse, Nxakanxaka, won R50 000 and this year the Mayor of Nkandla, Councilor Nonhlanhla Nzuza, announced that the winning horse will be awarded R80 000.
The fun of Nkandla will start tomorrow at 12 noon in the city with a horse parade.
There will be 10 races that will be contested on Saturday. In other races, money has been set to be contested. Beyond the sum of R80 000 that will be received by the horse that will come out ahead in the big race, others will be humbled until the fifth. The second will receive R50 000, the third will be R30 000, the fourth will be R20 000 and the fifth will receive R10 000. The total prizes in the first race is R190 000.
In the second race, the winning horse will take home R50 000 and the total prizes awarded in this race will be R115 000.
In the third, the best horse will take home a check of R30 000 and the total prizes will be worth R80 000.
In the fourth race, a stake of R59 000 is placed and the best bull will be given R25 000.
In the fifth race, a stake of R52 000 is placed and the champion will win R20 000.
In the sixth, the winner will be given R15 000 and a stake of R39 000 is up for grabs.
In the seventh race in which only ladies compete, a stake of R24 000 has been placed and the king will win R10 000.
In the eighth race, the makoya will chew R8 000 and the total prize money will be R20 500, while in the ninth race the biggest prize is R7 000 as the stake is R18 500.
Out of 10, they will compete for a sum of R16 500 and the winner will go home laughing alone with a check of R6 000. The total incentives set for the May 2026 competition is R615 500.
