Relebohile Mofokeng, who was sold by Orlando Pirates to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, HOPE to progress overseas.

Yesterday, the team confirmed that Mofokeng (21) has signed a four-year contract with the condition of renewing it for another one. The player who played for Bafana Bafana in the World Cup in Mexico, Canada and the United States of America (USA), did not return with the national team yesterday following his elimination from the Last 16 of the tournament. Pirates revealed that they agreed with Saint-Gelloise before the World Cup but chose to play down the matter so that Mofokeng could fully focus on this tournament. His signing was subject to his evaluation by the team’s doctors.

Yesterday, Saint-Gelloise introduced Mofokeng to their fans on social media. He will wear the number 38 he used to wear for the Blacks.

“I am very happy to be here. It means the fulfillment of a dream to play in Europe and start qualifying for the Champions League which is close. Last year was very special, the league title, the first FIFA World Cup with South Africa, and this is an important step in my career. I hope that I will continue to develop as a player here. Together with the team, we will do everything possible to fight for trophies,” said Mofokeng on the team’s website.

In Pirates, Mofokeng left to help them win the Betway Premiership league title after 14 years. In addition, it also won the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup. In the 2024/2025 season, he played a major role in winning the MTN8 title, the Carling Knockout and the Nedbank Cup.

In a statement to wish Mofokeng the best of luck, Pirates revealed that the player had the opportunity to go abroad before the start of last season but chose to stay at Zimnyama.

He is said to have said: “Chairman, I am not worried about going abroad now. I want to do everything possible this season, in efforts to win the league for the team. That is what I am focusing on now. If I happen to go abroad after that, it will be good. But for now, I will do everything possible to please the fans.”
