MASKANDI music stars, Ntencane and Ali Mgube, have left the Mvoti Municipality, accusing it of not caring for artists in their areas. These stars climbed and collapsed in the council during the Igeza Winter Experience at the Busana High sports grounds, Matimatolo, Greytown, at the weekend.

Mgube, who is the founder and organizer of the event, said he almost had a heart attack when Mvoti officials rejected his request four days before the event.

“That hurt me a lot because we musicians have no one to rely on except the local municipality. I felt hurt when the municipality abandoned me like a buffalo gall at the last minute. That can make you die heartily and even die,” explained Mgube who was furious.

“I wish that the municipal officials will consider us as bringing events like this improves our local area and also consider the people who vote as the election is coming up. We must vote again for these people who reject our requests as artists when we say we are bringing events that will improve our area. I am just talking about the artists who used to perform here and finish here and go to hotels in Greytown, which increases the city’s economy.”

And Ntencane said they do not have a municipality, a mayor and councilors in Mvoti. He said what happened to Mgube he knows very well because this municipality once tried to promise him funding but he waved his hands at the last minute. However, Ntencane and Mugbe gave a big round of applause to the people of this area for coming in large numbers to support Ndukuzempi’s friend.

“I feel very happy about this event as it is the first but it had so much excitement and people came out to support it. I hope it will not be the last, I hope it will grow and multiply with the people on the field.”

Artists sharing the stage include Inkosi Yamacokama, Limit, Menzi, Shinkili, Mgube Boys and others.

“I don’t take the support of people in the way they have supported me lightly. I am very grateful to the musicians who came to support me at my first event, they made me a person who looks honest to the people of my country. And one day when I say I am bringing musicians I know they will trust me again,” said Mgube.

He also thankedthe Matimatolo Taxi Association led by Ngcobo, and Mzobe’s mother who donated a cow so that the visitors could have barbecue.
