IF you have ever told your boss at work that you have a fever or diarrhea but you know very well that you need to rest and relax, know that you are not alone because there are many others who have the exact same problem as you.

That is what the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) said, as they have revealed that half of the working people in this country are living with mental depression, most of which are caused by stress from different life situations, being enslaved by work and other things related to that – which are bothering them silently.

SADAG revealed that many people are afraid to talk about these situations, which is proven by the fact that only 57% of workers can talk freely with their managers, and 48% trust their managers about the situations that are bothering them in private.

This skepticism appears to be based on the fact that employees do not trust their managers, and it is also a fear that if they report what is bothering them, they will be in trouble in some way that could cost them their job.

That is what ultimately makes people choose to take time off from work by lying, a person says he has a fever so he can take time off work for those days, because he thinks it will help him get better – while ignoring the nature of the conditions that are enslaving him and that are really bothering him mentally and physically.

The problem, however, starts with the fact that if that absenteeism doesn’t make much difference in fixing the real problem, you see yourself becoming a fool because you don’t know what else can help you fix your situation.

Why are people not quick to seek help?

One of the biggest problems that causes that is that if you have a situation that disturbs you emotionally and mentally, it is as if you are a weak person, and that sometimes in order to benefit from this – you need a lot of time to deal with this situation which is difficult for some people because they feel that they will not have all that time.

SADAG advised that running away from work because you are troubled by certain situations in the mind or in life is not the solution to your problems, so you need to face the nature of your situation or problem so that it does not interfere with other things.
