SABEL MBOTHA

IN AN ATTEMPT to fight against evil in society and gender violence, the Men of Prayer organization under the Lutheran church in Durban has organized a march to express its anger.

This follows the incidents of brutality that have become commonplace in the country and the rampant corruption. On June 7, which is the day of the PML Rally in the Durban Circuit led by President Njabulo Sithole in Clermont under the Christianenburg District, members of this organization will hold a rally in the streets of this township.

The march will end with the transfer of a list of complaints to the police. It is aligned with the annual Men of Prayer rally of this circuit.

Even in its meetings, the organization has started talking about men coming out and talking about things that affect the public in different ways. Recently, they gathered at the community hall in Mariannridge, Mariannhill, where there was a Mini Conference ahead of their conference which will be held in July this year. Here the Chairman of this organization in Durban, Mr. Sbu Kunene, urged the members to vent their anger about what is happening in the community.

“I was wondering what we are saying about the problems that the community is facing. In our community there is a space that people are using because we are a church and we are silent,” said Kunene. He said it is scary that the church does not hear what it has to say about the issue of immigrants in the country which is in the news these days.

“What does this thing say to us who are men of prayer and children of God? What shall we do when it comes to a disaster?” he asked.

Kunene went on to say that, as the march has been planned, they want their voice to be heard as Lutheran men of prayer.

President Sithole, complained about the high level of corruption in the country which made him wonder “we were the kind of people, were we like this before 1994 as we are now?” He said people have misused the opportunities God has opened for them.

“When I enter the house, I am afraid that there is not a corrupt man here because even in the most respectable places where we work, there is a smell of corruption,” said Sithole while speaking to PML members.

He went on to say that in the past the church was the conscience of the nation but recently it has become involved in corruption. He emphasized that if a man has God, he is not afraid and has the courage to face any situation.

On the 17th to 19th of July this year this organization will have its conference hosted by the Durban Central District which will be held at the Maritime School of Excellence, Durban.
