The Commissioner of Police who was charged with the multi-million rand tender, General Fannie Masemola, was suspended and Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane was appointed to take over the position.

Masemola’s suspension was announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa, when he spoke to the media yesterday.

Masemola was charged with charges related to the tender of R360 million awarded to the company of a businessman facing a series of charges, Mr. Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

Masemola appeared briefly at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where he was charged with breaching the Public Finance Management Act.

Ramaphosa said they decided to give Masemola a break as he is still facing allegations.

Masemola will return to court next month, where he will appear with Matlala and 12 other police officers who have been charged with charges related to the tender awarded to Matlala’s company.

Ramaphosa said he trusts Lieutenant General Dimpane to do the job well.

Lieutenant General Dimpane was in charge of Police Finance.
