Jonathan Andic, son of the founder of the fashion group Mango who was arrested in Spain as part of an investigation into his father’s death in 2024, denied the accusation of murder.

Andic described the allegation against him in a letter to staff, which was sent out on Tuesday, as “serious, unfair and unfounded”. He also announced that he was resigning as deputy chairman of the fashion group’s board to focus on his legal defense.

“Stories were made up based on a view that was biased, distorted and taken out of context and that created a perception of guilt that has nothing to do with reality,” Andic (45) said in the letter.

This is his first comment on the case since he was arrested.

“I take this decision with a heavy heart, but am convinced that it is the best for the company and for me… I must focus all my energy on proving my innocence.”

Andic was with his 71-year-old billionaire father, Isak Andic, in the Montserrat Mountains near Barcelona when the Mango founder fell to his death on December 14, 2024.

Investigators initially treated the death as an accident, but prosecutors reopened the investigation in October and focused on Jonathan Andic.

He was arrested a week ago but later released, after he paid bail of €1 million (approximately R20.4 million).
