Umashi Dhlamini, deputy police commissioner of the Tshwane Metropolitan Police (TMPD), was suspended on Friday after serious allegations were made before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

Col. Isaac Mahamba, spokesman for the TMPD, says that in light of the allegations, Dhlamini asked to be suspended with immediate effect. TMPD Commissioner Yolandi Faro approved the request after careful consideration.

Mahamba says Dhlamini was responsible for support services and administration in the department.

Dhlamini’s name was mentioned before the Madlanga Commission where allegations of tender irregularities were raised.

“The purpose of the suspension is so that a fair, thorough and uninterrupted investigation into the allegations can be carried out.”

Mahamba says the suspension forms part of a standard risk management measure to protect the integrity of the investigation process and is not a punitive measure or indication of any conviction.

  • The executive committee of ActionSA in Gauteng also suspended Kholofelo Morodi, a member of the Tshwane mayoral committee, from her post as mayoral committee member for corporate and shared services in the Tshwane metro with immediate effect as a precautionary measure. She may also not participate in any party activities, structures or communication platforms during her suspension.
