There is a HUGE hope of finding a place in the Bafana Bafana squad that will play in the World Cup for the Kaizer Chiefs players who have been beaten by the heel for a long time by the coach, Hugo Broos.
Bafana is preparing to play the fourth World Cup in history which will start on June 11 in Mexico, Canada and the United States of America (USA). The local team will open against Mexico in the opening game of the tournament on June 11 in Mexico City. However, before that, Broos was tasked with selecting the 26-man squad that will represent South Africa in this tournament. That will happen tomorrow at the Union Buildings in an event that will be attended by the President of the country, Cyril Ramaphosa.
In the squad of 32 players, Broos selected four Chiefs players which are goalkeepers, Brandon Petersen, Bradley Cross, Lebohang Maboe and Thabiso Monyane. This coach has been heavily criticized in the past for leaving out the Kings’ players or those in form, arguing that the whole team has not reached the right level.
The Chiefs coach, Cedric Kaze, said he hopes that the Kings’ players will find a place in the squad for the World Cup.
“The appointment of these players shows the progress that has happened in the team this season. Sometimes people think that the best coaches are those who complain about everything, about insufficient players and resources. But sometimes you use what you get to make it better. The four players in the squad that will be reviewed are an indication of the progress that has happened together and individually. I hope that they will all go to the World Cup,” said Kaze.
Although there are doubts about Maboe, Cross and Monyane, there is a big chance that Petersen will find a place among the three goalkeepers who are expected to get tickets to Mexico.
The squad that will be selected by Broos, will play a friendly match against Nicaragua at Orlando Amstel Arena, Soweto, on Friday at 6 pm.
