A Jetour global executive has revealed that the Chinese company is in the process of manufacturing its cars in South Africa.

Andy Yuan, the Vice President of Jetour International, made this announcement at the Sun Bet Arena this week when the company launched its first new energy vehicle (NEV) in the country.

Yuan said they are spreading to neighboring countries that also sell right-hand drive cars, including Namibia, Botswana, Zambia and others.

He said they want to open a car manufacturing firm in the country to reduce costs and create job opportunities.

The firm will be assembling cars, not building them from scratch. It will be remembered that Chery South Africa recently announced that it has bought the Nissan factory in Pretoria.

Jetour is one of Chery’s global subsidiaries.

The T1 iDM and T-2 iDM are plug-in hybrid vehicles.

They are based on the T1 and T2 which run on petrol and play a major role in the development of Jetour in this country. The T2 is one of the contenders for the 2026 SA Car of the Year title.

The T1 DM has a petrol engine and two electric motors that produce a combined power of 250kW and 530Nm of torque. The battery that stores electricity is 18.4kWh and you can use it as a generator that produces 3.3kW of power.

Charging it at a fast place they say takes 27 minutes from 30% to 80% and with household electricity it takes about three hours to be full.

If the battery and petrol are full, they say you can go 1,200 kilometers, and with electricity alone you can go 100.

The T2 DM has 265kW of power and 610Nm of torque. They also say that you can travel about 1,200 kilometers and 90 kilometers on electricity alone.

Its battery and charging times are the same as the T1 DM.

Price:

T1 iDM – R689 900

T2 i-DM – R779 900
