BREATHING is something that many people ignore and take for granted, since their lungs face different situations that disturb them, which can be cigarette smoke, dust, certain diseases, chemicals and polluted air.

That is the warning issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), warning people to be aware of the things and conditions they inhale and put into their bodies – which can be harmful to their lungs.

The WHO said that taking care of the lungs is not only about avoiding illness, but it also has a positive effect on other things, including good sleep, blood pressure and just good health – however that happens if you avoid certain things.

Here are the things WHO has warned people to avoid and be aware of:

  1. Smoking and vaping: Smoking any type of tobacco and vaping are some of the things that have a negative impact on a person’s lungs. Vaping is often thought to be better, but it also contains chemicals that are harmful to the lungs.
  2. Avoid inhaling smoke: Inhaling smoke from a smoker’s wine also has a negative effect on a person’s lungs, especially for young children and the elderly.
  3. Avoid breathing polluted air: You can do that by keeping yourself in a clean place so that you don’t breathe polluted air, which can be dangerous for you. You can also do this by avoiding outdoor exercise, opening windows to let dirty air out of the house and avoiding cleaning products with strong chemicals.
  4. Protect yourself when you are at work: You do this by keeping and taking care that the place you work in remains clean so that it does not become a breeding ground for germs.
  5. Get in the habit of moving your body: That doesn’t force you to overdo it with exercise, but you can do it by simply stretching your legs for a distance, or by swimming – or do regular exercise if you don’t mind.
  6. Avoid being overweight: Being overweight makes it difficult to breathe properly, especially when you are busy and when you are trying to relax. So keep your body weight healthy to help reduce the pressure on your lungs.
  7. Know the rules that can help you: Diseases such as flu and pneumonia can affect your lungs, and can be a serious threat to your health – so it’s important to know about the different rules that can help you avoid such situations.
  8. Don’t ignore the warning signs: It’s easy to ignore the warning signs because you think they’re just a passing thing, when they actually indicate a bigger problem. Some of the symptoms to look out for are persistent coughing, shortness of breath, throat congestion and chest pain.
  9. Drink enough water: That helps keep your lungs relaxed and healthy.
