THE DISEASE Vitiligo is not limited to affecting the human skin, as in many people it comes with changes that disturb the mood, and some myths about it make it difficult for those who have it to accept that they have it.

This was stated by the private health center Affinity Health, warning and advising people about it through a campaign to educate about this disease and its dangers in the world.

What is this disease?

Vitiligo is a chronic disease that is believed to be caused by a mistake in your body attacking melanocytes, which are cells that produce the color or the way your skin should look, causing spots that are often whiter or brighter than your skin was.

Those spots usually show themselves in these parts of the body:

  • On the face and neck.
  • On the hands and arms.
  • In the feet and legs.
  • Around the eyes and mouth.

In some people, it is possible that this condition extends to the hair, causing it to change color and become white.

Vitiligo affects anyone, regardless of age or build, however it tends to be more noticeable in those with fair skin. According to health research, it is estimated that 0.5 to 2% of people have this disease in the world.

Which is not true about this disease?

  • It is that we are contagious as there are people who think that you can catch it by touching, being close or wearing the clothes you have.
  • It is that you get it if you are not clean or touch certain bacteria.
  • It’s that certain types of food make you have it.
  • And that you get it because of certain cosmetics you use.

Its effect on behavior:

Many people with this disease often have a problem of lack of self-confidence, which is often caused by not knowing how to deal with change. And for others, we make them feel enslaved in the mind, which is caused by judgment because we have surrounded them especially young people who are often judged because we surrounded them when they were young.

Here are some situations that can cause us to be more demanding of our employer:

  • Slavery in spirit and mind.
  • A blow wound was sensitive to the skin.
  • Standing and working in the hot sun.
  • Using certain chemicals that are harmful to the skin.

Some of the methods you can use to control this disease

Currently, there is no cure for this disease but there are methods approved by health professionals that you can use to treat it. Some of them include medications including corticosteriods and others that will be recommended by a doctor who can help you.

Here are some things that can help you to quickly accept this situation:

  • Being comfortable shows your skin as it is.
  • Not focusing too much on makeup.
  • Talking freely about your situation.
  • Networking, build relationships with people who have a similar situation to yours.
