IMOTO: RENAULT KIGER

PEOPLE are obsessed with Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and the companies see that, that’s why the competition for consumers is so intense.

It cost the lowest price when it was the busiest because there were many customers and the types to choose from were scattered.

I am counting you Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Exter, you Tata Punch, you Mahindra 3X0, and others.

This makes it important for companies to have unique features to attract consumers.

Renault South Africa has just introduced the improved Kiger so that it will continue to be popular since it has been visited for years.

The Kiger arrived in 2021, will replace the Sandero and has become one of Renault’s most important vehicles with more than 28,000 sold.

Beauty is one of the things that attract people to buy a car and Renault has improved the way it looks.

The front is similar to their latest cars by having the company’s new logo prominently displayed on the grille.

If you’re not paying attention you can tell it’s fitted with 16 inch rims and the covers make it look good though.

The rear also has a new logo and C-shaped LED lights. The hood has roof rails that not only make it look good but can carry a weight of 50kg.

Its 205mm ground clearance completes its SUV-like appearance.

Inside, the first thing that struck me was that you must be a clean person because the seats have cream fabric. It matches the dashboard. It’s good, but it’s quick to get dirty.

At the front there is an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that connects to a mobile phone via Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

To make it easier to answer the cell phone, they put buttons on the steering wheel. It would have been nice to have at least two charging ports on the front because there is only one and it is not USB Type-C.

The chances of hitting when you go backwards are small since the background appears on the screen and there are sensors that make noise when you are too close to something.

What I like about the interior is that it is open and there are many places to put things like mobile phone, drinks and so on.

The boot space is 405 liters.

On the road, it runs on a 1.0 liter engine without a turbo. It has 52kW of power and 96Nm of torque like the Triber.

However, I have heard that it is healthier than Triber. There were steep climbs going forward, but most of the time I was walking alone without carrying any luggage.

The gearbox is a 5 speed manual. I used to get confused when changing gears, later I realized that the clutch likes to be long so I have to release it properly before stepping on the oil.

It consumed 7.6 liters of petrol per 100km.

Renault, however, will pair it with a turbo engine in the next few weeks.

In terms of safety and driver’s services, they have installed ABS brakes, EBD, tells how much air is in the tires, has a place to install a child seat and Electronic Stability Program, Traction Control System and six airbags.

Price:

Renault KIGER  MT Techno – R244 999

It comes with a five-year or 150,000km warranty and a two-year or 30,000km service plan.
