The famous goalkeeper of Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana, Itumeleng Khune, sees Brandon Petersen as the one who should wear the jersey with Ronwen Williams in the national team in the World Cup, and receive the best goalkeeper award, the Betway Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season.

Khune, who won almost all the goalkeeper awards in Mzansi football before snaring his gloves, was talking to the media after the historic home game where Chiefs drew 1-1 with Orlando Pirates.

The Chiefs should thank Petersen for the point they got in this game since the 31-year-old goalkeeper from Cape Town, stopped many bad balls, and ended up being selected as the best player in the game.

Petersen is one of the best goalkeepers this season, which is proven to be among the top goalscorers in the league.

With days left for the Bafana coach, Hugo Broos, to announce the squad he will go to the World Cup with, Khune has joined the fans who believe that the Chiefs goalkeeper deserves to get on the plane to Mexico, Canada and the United States of America (USA).

“The difference between Chiefs staying third on the log and not being outside the Top 8 is the way Petersen has fought since the start of the season.

“He was rightfully chosen as the standout in the home game, but what made me even more happy is that he is not a goalkeeper who raises his level when it is only big games.

“He always leads the Chiefs like a light. The best thing Petersen did in the home game was for Broos to see for himself,” said Khune.

“The one who wants to know why the Chiefs were beaten by the Pirates 3-0 at home in February, is because Petersen was absent due to illness.

“According to me, the issue of whether Petersen is going to the World Cup should not be discussed anymore, but it should be discussed who will start the matches for Bafana in the World Cup between him and Ronza (Williams).

“I am proud of Brandon (Petersen) because I know the problems he has faced since there are sections of the fans who compared him to the former Chiefs goalkeepers.

“He is the leader of the Chiefs and he should be nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Season because his bravery is exactly the same as those who score the main goals of this team.”
