THE IMPORTANCE and popularity of the new dance music 3-Step, which is a combination of Kwaito and House, has been shown by the fact that there are artists who make this type of music, striking again and again by embracing the Metro FM Music Awards.
In this event, which is coming back for the 20th time and which celebrated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Metro FM radio station, it was held at the ICC, Durban on Saturday night – it was held under the theme of Music Excellence.
Among the artists who won the award this time are 3 Step artists from Jazzworld and Thukuthela, who won three awards for Best Produced Album, Best Dance and Best Duo/Group for their first album which was a hit last year, titled The Most Wanted.
Singer Ciza, who brought in the attention last year with his song Isaka, which was produced by Jazzworld and Thukuthela, walked away with two awards for Best Male Artist and Best Artist of The Year.
In this gathering, the program which was presented by actor Lawrence Maleka and Metro FM broadcaster Lerato Kganyago, honored Maskandi’s music legend, Ihhashi Elihlophe – he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Broadcasting veteran Wilson B. Nkosi, of Metro FM – he was awarded the Long Service Award, to honor him for his contributions of more than 40 years of broadcasting, and the many good things he has done for this radio station.
The world-renowned Sicathamiya band Ladysmith Black Mambazo also won three awards for Best Collaboration Song, Best African Pop and Best Global Icon.
In the two categories that started to exist this year; which is for Best Lekompo, won by Kharishma – who also won the award for Best New Artist; then the Best Maskandi was defeated by Khuzani “Indlamlenze” Mpungose.
