THE first leg of the new season of the Telkom Netball League will be played in Durban starting today.

The first round will be held at the Durban University of Technology, Steve Biko Campus from today until May 2.

In this competition, the province of KwaZulu-Natal will be represented by two teams, Kingdom Stars playing in the top division and Kingdom Queens playing in the second division.

Stars moved up to Division 1 by being champions of Division 2 last season, and also won the qualifying match against the team that finished last in Division 1, Limpopo Baobabs.

This team will be coached by Nompumelelo Mthembu, who coached last season, assisted by Sinenhlanhla Msomi.

Their first game will be against the Gauteng team, the Golden Fireballs today at 3 pm, in the second they will play against the Southern Stings of the Western Cape on Saturday at 3 pm.

Queens, which we held in the second division, will be sharpened by Precious Mthembu, assisted by Lungile Lembethe.

It will open with the Malawi Under-21 national team, which has been invited to take part in the tournament, today at 1 p.m. The second game will be played against Sonoblomo from Free State on Saturday at 1 pm and then against North West Tshukudu at 5 pm.

Tickets that include all the games played on that day cost R100 per person. Children under the age of seven enter for free.

Tickets are available on the Netball South Africa website and at the gate at the DUT netball court.

The teams will represent KZN in the Telkom Netball League

Kingdom Stars: Nozipho Ntshangase (captain), Abigail Palombo, Nofundo Mngomezulu, Sibongakonke Mdletshe, Jordan Buys, Tanna de Freitas, Luyanda Msomi, Nosihle Mkhwanazi, Grace Daley, Onalenna Diphoko, Thulisile Maduna, Sli Ngcobo, Nompumelelo Khumalo, Amanda Madlal, Amanda Mtshangae, Silindokuhle Mazibuko.

Kingdom Queens: Nolwazi Mathe (captain), Akhona Dlamini, Aphiwe Thusini, Asanda Ndaba, Asanda Myeni, Caityln Watt, Katelynn van der Westhuizen, Lonwabo Khumalo, Luzanri Buys, Nkanyezi Makhubela, Nokwanda Zulu, Nohlanhla Shabangu, Ntombenhle Shongwe, Sphesihle Magwaza, Thobekile Mjaja, Tyra Scott.
