A VETERAN in music and dance who has been involved in politics, Gezane Eric Kobane, popularly known as Papa Penny – lamented the leadership of the political party Mkhonto Wesizwe Party (MK) when he abruptly resigned from the party on Friday.
In his letter of resignation addressed to the leader of the party Mr. Jacob Zuma, Papa Penny said that resigning from being a member of the MKP and becoming its member of Parliament was a very difficult decision that broke his heart.
He said he joined the MK Party himself because he wanted to liberate the people of this country, but that was hindered because of a certain part of the party’s leadership in Limpopo – he lamented that it caused him to become disaffected among the members of the party.
He also complained that he was facing wars directed at him, being tortured and it was made sure that he always felt depressed. He added that the media would be used to destroy his reputation and the name he has worked so hard for.
Since I am a person who cares about the welfare of people and society, I would tolerate these situations if they were the cause of other people on the sidelines. Now my problem is that they come from within the group I was in, which makes it difficult to ignore them as if I can’t see when I can see clearly,” said Papa Penny.
However, he said despite this, he is grateful to Zuma for giving him the opportunity to represent the party in Parliament and to represent the people of South Africa using the power of the MK Party.
This party, led by Zuma, who was the president of the country, has continued to face serious problems since it contested the national elections two years ago, which is proven by the fact that things are constantly changing within it. It is common for it to always cook and pour in different positions.
Papa Penny’s resignation is expected to strike a chord with this group in Limpopo, especially in the Mopani and Giyani District Municipalities, where he has the most followers.
Papa Penny used to have a show on Mzansi Magic that was very popular Papa Penny Ahe – which aired for four seasons. He was sworn in as a Member of Parliament for the MK Party after the 2024 general election.
