A 47-year-old man from Boschkop appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court facing a charge of attempted murder for allegedly infecting his 38-year-old lover with HIV.
It is alleged that the accused and the complainant were in a romantic relationship between October 2025 and June 2026. During this period, the accused allegedly misled the complainant about his HIV status, telling him that he did not have HIV.
On 26 June 2026, it is said that the complainant found antiretroviral drugs (ARV) in the suspect’s bag and asked him about it. The suspect is said to have admitted that he has HIV and then told him that he infected her on purpose because he did not want her to be with another person.
On 25 July 2026, the complainant was tested for HIV at a health center and was told that he was diagnosed with HIV. The next day, he reported the matter to the police. The suspect was arrested that day in the area where they lived.
The case is adjourned to 3 August 2026 for bail information.
The suspect is now in custody.
