Two officials of the Prime Minister’s office in Mpumalanga have been arrested by the SAPS Tshwane Organized Crime unit in relation to the case of murdering the investigating officer Mr. Mabidi Mashaba.

Mashaba was killed in September 2023 when his car was sprayed with more than 20 bullets on his way from Mpumalanga to Pretoria. His work laptop and documents were also taken. Mashaba was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

The first suspect, Eckson Mkondo has appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court for murder and conspiracy to murder, his case has been adjourned to 4 June 2026 to apply for bail. The second suspect is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 29 May 2026 on charges of murder and conspiracy to murder.
