Four people were shot dead in a suspected gang-related incident in Westbank on the Cape Flats on Saturday evening.

A seven-year-old child was also wounded during the shooting.

Col. André Traut, spokesperson for the Western Cape police, says police officers responded to a complaint in Strandveld Street at around 20:00.

When they arrived at the scene, they found three women and a man, all between 32 and 39 years old, with gunshot wounds.

The adults are all dead.

An injured child was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

“A preliminary investigation indicates that the incident may be gang-related,” Traut said on Sunday morning.

However, the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting are still being investigated by the police’s serious and violent crime unit.

Traut says four charges of murder and one of attempted murder are being investigated.

No one has been arrested yet.
