The Electoral Commission (ECC) says it welcomes the fact that the Electoral Court on Wednesday heard the case in which the MK party seeks to have the results of the 2024 national and provincial elections set aside.
The case was heard and concluded in the electoral court, which sits in the Johannesburg High Court, on Wednesday. The court reserved its judgment.
“Our votes were stolen by the people who are supposed to be the epitome of fairness. How can we ever trust the IEC again with a next election?” posted the MK party on his X account on Wednesday.
According to the IEC, this development brings a long legal process closer to an end.
The commission says that since the start of the case “all relevant evidence, including expert reports on the results system, has been made available to the court to assist in the adjudication of the case”.

According to the commission, this documentation shows that the 2024 election results were not tampered with and that the “election was credible, free and fair”.
“We maintain our position that the election results reflected the democratic will of the people of South Africa,” the commission said.
The commission says that it respects the authority and independence of the court and will await the verdict, before making further comments on the merits of the case.
While the court considers its ruling, the commission is now focusing on the operational and logistical preparations for the voter registration weekend that will take place on June 20 and 21.
The commission urged all eligible voters to register or check their details to ensure they can participate in the upcoming elections.
