The Department of Cooperative Governance and Indigenous Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal, in collaboration with the Provincial Disaster Management Center (PDMC), intervened after the collapse of a solid wall in Buhleni Village in Nanda.
An 18-meter wall collapsed during a church meeting, covering about 20 church members under soil and debris.
Currently, the emergency services have saved eight victims and taken them to the hospital, and two are seriously injured. Rescue operations for the remaining church members are ongoing. The Trustee of Cogta in KZN, Pastor Thulasizwe Buthelezi, confirmed that the disaster team is on the scene to help with additional resources for rescue and cleanup.
