The office of Peace Mabe, the Deputy Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, has confirmed that her X account has been hijacked and that unknown individuals are currently in control of the platform.
According to the office, the deputy minister’s verified account, @DM_PeaceMabe, was illegally obtained and is being used to publish unauthorized content falsely attributed to her.
The hijacked account was apparently used to spread misleading, divisive and inflammatory messages, including comments about South Africa’s national football structures and those involved in this sport.
She says that none of the content currently appearing on the account represents her views, opinions, instructions or official position.
“The deputy minister completely and unconditionally distances herself from all posts, messages and interactions that originate from the compromised account,” the statement said.

Mabe strongly condemns the actions of the persons responsible for the cybercrime and the misuse of her official communication platform.
The office says the deputy minister remains committed to national unity, social cohesion and the promotion of sport as a force that unites South Africans. She also reaffirmed her support to Bafana Bafana, the players, coaching staff, technical staff, medical team and all other representatives of the country.
Mabe appeals to South Africans to continue to support the national team and stand together behind them during this important period.
The office further warns that the hijacking of a verified account used by a public office holder is a serious offence.
Illegal access to digital systems, interference with electronic accounts and the impersonation of a public representative are considered punishable offenses in terms of South African legislation.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to regain control of the account and the incident is being investigated.
