A bus, returning from a trip in Uganda and leaving the road, claimed the lives of 20 school children and one adult.

The bus from the King David Junior School in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, was on its way back from a school trip to the Sipi waterfall in the Kapchorwa district.

According to preliminary investigations by the local police, the driver of the bus apparently lost control and drove the bus off the road. In the process, the bus hit a large rock and overturned.

“The accident claimed the lives of one adult man and 20 pupils, while three adult men and several learners sustained injuries,” says a police statement posted on X.

Along with the statement, a photo of the mangled wreckage of the bus was shared.

Fatal bus accidents occur frequently in Uganda.

In October, two buses collided on a highway, killing at least 46 people.

A report from 2024 stated that there were 4,434 fatal collisions and 5,144 deaths that year.
