Bafana Bafana COACH, Hugo Broos, will use the last friendly match before the start of the World Cup, to test his team’s readiness to face Mexico on June 11 at 9pm at Azteca Stadium, New Mexico.
Broos said this yesterday, before boarding a flight to Mexico following the visa crisis that almost killed the coach’s plans.
Bafana, which was supposed to leave early on Sunday, turned its back on South Africa yesterday afternoon, following the refusal of some members of the squad to travel with the national team because of visas they did not intend.
The Belgian coach, told the media at OR Tambo International Airport that he and his team have overcome the problems with the interruption of their trip but they are looking forward to the friendly match against Jamaica on Friday, 9 pm in Pachuca, Mexico.
“It forces us to pass on what happened as we are going to the biggest tournament you can be a part of in world football,” said Broos.
“What will help us quickly forget not to waste time, start preparations for the Jamaica game when we arrive in Mexico.
“I think Jamaica will be what we need before the start of the World Cup. They have strong and fast players like the countries we will face in the group.
“In terms of level, there is not much difference between us and Jamaica. The proof of this is that Jamaica was beaten by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the last qualifying games to be part of the countries that will meet in Mexico, Canada and the United States of America (USA),” said Broos.
Bafana have been placed in Group A with Mexico, South Korea and the Czech Republic.
After the Mexico game, the Czech Republic will follow on June 18, before closing with South Korea in the top 25.
