FORMER Minister of Police, Mr Bheki Cele, and former MEC for Community Development, Mrs Sisisi Tolashe, are among the five ANC leaders who will face disciplinary action.

The names of Cele and Mrs Tolashe appear in the list of five ANC leaders in the report of the integrity committee in the ANC which suggests that action should be taken.

This was expressed by the Secretary General of the ANC, Mr. Fikile Mbalula, when he spoke to the media in Gauteng yesterday.

Cele was summoned before the integrity committee to answer allegations that he was given money by a businessman who is facing a series of crimes, Mr. Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

Matlala told the Parliamentary committee investigating the allegations made by the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, that he bribed Cele with R500 000.

The integrity committee’s report found that Cele brought the ANC into disrepute, and suggested that action should be taken.

Matlala revealed that Cele used to sleep in his house in his brother’s place when he was in Pretoria.

Mrs. Tolashe has recently been appointed to the position after the allegations against her. Among them is that he took cars donated by Chinese businessmen to be used by the women’s wing of the ANC, and gave them to his children.

There were also allegations that the rules were not followed when the people who worked in Mrs. Tolashe’s office were hired.

Mrs. Tolashe was also ordered to resign as a member of Parliament and as the president of the women’s division.

Other leaders the report says have been taken into action are the one who is a member of the mayoral council in the Johannesburg Municipality, Mr. Sithembiso Zungu, the chairman of the ANC in the Sedibeng region, Mr. Jason Mkhwane, and the Mayor of Mathjabeng Municipality, Mr. Thanduxolo Khalipha.

Mbalula said that the report of the integrity committee was discussed in detail during the executive council meeting at the weekend.

“We have agreed to accept the recommendations of the integrity committee. We will forward the matter of the concerned leaders to the committee for corrections. We would like to thank the good work done by the committee. It continues to do its job fearlessly.”

Mbalula said the disciplinary committee will decide what sentence will be given to these leaders.

“The disciplinary committee will formally charge them.”
