The management of the South African National Park was shocked to receive a report about the bodies of two tourists found in the Pafuri area (Nxanatsheni North Region) in the Kruger National Park on Friday.
According to a report issued by Sanparks, on Thursday, a search operation was started after the staff realized that there are tourists who have not returned from their camp. The investigation continued on Friday, which led to the discovery of two bodies near the river by other tourists. The security guards were informed and it was found that the car carrying the tourists was not at the scene of the incident.
The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment, Willie Aucamp says it is the first time in the history of the Kruger National Park that an incident of this nature has been reported.
The relatives of the deceased have been informed and the organization will assist the family with transportation to Limpopo as well as accommodation and repatriation costs.
“This matter has been referred to the police who will conduct further investigations,” said the MEC.
“Furthermore, out of respect for the family and to allow the investigation to proceed without interruption, no further comment will be made at this time,” he continued.
