THE MUNICIPALITY of Thekwini strongly warns residents against disrupting pumps and other important water infrastructure. These illegal actions are the cause of disruption of water supply in many communities.

It turns out that because of this the community of M KwaMashu has been left without water

The municipality’s statement said: “It is worrying that these incidents are increasing, despite repeated efforts to protect buildings with pumps with locks and other means. Despite all that, the municipality’s infrastructure continues to be destroyed.”

We went on to say that similar incidents have been reported in Ntuzuma and Nanda where the water infrastructure has been destroyed, cutting off its supply.

“Pumps are very important in the community’s water supply system and they also help to manage water and distribute it according to plan.

Therefore, this infrastructural damage is unfairly affecting the water supply in the community for a long time.

The municipality strongly condemns all acts of theft, destruction of property and public infrastructure. These criminal acts not only destroy municipal property, but disrupt important services, and add another financial burden to the municipality.”

The municipality has issued a warning that those who will be caught crowding the council’s infrastructure will be prosecuted with criminal charges.

Communities have been urged to work with municipalities to protect infrastructure and report anything suspicious they see happening.

Suspicious matters can be reported to the City Integrity and Investigations Directorate on the hotline number: 0800 20 20 20.
