IT IS DOWN to those who focus on the construction sector as they are about to be empowered with knowledge due to the cooperation of the board responsible for the development of the construction industry and the University of Johannesburg.

The chairman of the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), Mr. Sikhulile Nzo, said that they will launch the Certificate in Construction Management (CCM), in collaboration with the University of Johannesburg, at the Coastlands Musgrave Hotel in Durban on Tuesday from 7.30 am. Nzo said the main purpose of this certificate is to equip people involved in the construction industry with knowledge.

He said that this information will greatly contribute to the development of the economy in this province, to trade, to the delivery of development and to the development of society. Continuing, he said the main objective is to equip contractors with business management knowledge and to provide them with the skills needed in the construction sector.

The speaker of the day will be the Minister of Public Works in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr. Marthinus Meyer, who will speak at length about the importance of improving the knowledge of contractors and sharpening their skills so that they can do high quality work.

Nzo said that with this information, the contractors will be able to complete the work they were awarded at the agreed time, with the money allocated to them and at the right level.

He said that CCM will solve the problem faced by contractors who are still in their infancy and close the gap that exists between being able to build and manage a business. “By sharpening the skills of the contractors, we are not only equipping them with skills but also stabilizing the construction industry so that it has a bright future.”
