The police are investigating the incident of burglary at the home of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Commissioner who has been suspended from the Supply Chain Management Unit, Lieutenant General (Dr) Molefe Isaac Fani.

The suspects broke into his home in Johannesburg and stole a number of electronic items, including a laptop. No one has been arrested, and detectives are still investigating.

A case of burglary and theft has been opened. Investigators are busy trying to find out how the suspects got into the residence and if any other items were stolen.

Fani was suspended in May 2026 following the findings of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) regarding his previous role as Acting Chief Procurement Officer at the National Treasury during the COVID-19 crisis. The investigation focused on a contract for personal protective equipment (PPE) that was found to have breached procurement regulations and allegedly involved conflict of interest and waste of money. He is also the subject of a separate SIU investigation related to the Medicare 24 Tshwane District tender. The police have confirmed that no suspects have been arrested and the investigation is ongoing.
