It is difficult to find it difficult to accept the brutality with which a police officer in Mpumalanga, Hammarsdale, was killed.
Constable Mbali Msomi (42), who is said to have worked in the police force for more than 15 years, is said to have been shot dead by the father of the child (6), who is also a policeman at his home in the same area on Tuesday.
According to sources, the deceased, also a native of the area, came to the suspect’s house and arrested him along with another female police officer. It is not clear what happened as it is said that the suspect ended up shooting the deceased, then he also shot himself, but he did not die and was rushed to the hospital.
The brother of the deceased, Mr. Bonga Msomi quickly clarified that it is difficult for them to put their finger on the cause of his sister’s murder.
“Where the incident happened, the suspect was living alone. We were called to the scene of the incident. When we got there, we found that even the police had arrived, and they refused to let us in. We don’t really know the reason why it ended up here,” Msomi said.
He described his sister as a woman who cared deeply about her work as well as the community she served.
Giving examples, he said he was a person who travels to different places in the community to raise awareness among women about gender violence.
“We are still shocked that it could be he who is said to have gone the same way,” Msomi said.
However, he revealed that they were surprised by what happened to his sister, saying that they had never heard before that there was smoke of violence between him and the suspect, who he said is the father of the deceased’s last of three children, all of whom are still studying.
“We just saw an incident that went down. As far as I know Mbali, he would not stay in a relationship that abuses him. We are very shocked that he was killed like this because he always warned women not to become victims because of love,” he said.
He said that there is no school in Hammarsdale that he has ever been to that will have constructive talks with the children.
“Also, he always made himself aware of gender violence, the right way to behave, he encouraged himself that he does not get involved in crime,” said Msomi, who said that when he spoke to the children of the deceased, he would come down to their level, so that they would not be afraid of him, and it would be easy to come to him if they had problems.
He said that in these projects of his sister, he was also working with the leadership of the local natives as well as the churches.
He said it is difficult to remember the number of awards he has collected when the province awards policemen who have done well in their work every year.
“We are very hurt by Mbali. As the community cries and shows that he was a people’s person, we as a family, cry again and again because he was a kind hearted person,” said Msomi.
He said they left it in the hands of the police to assist them and get justice as well as answers to his brutal murder.
“We want justice because the child’s father is also alive and well, we want him to have a conscience and tell the truth,” he said.
