People who were touched by seeing kwaito singer, Thokozani “L’vovo Derrango” Ndlovu explain the difficulties he faced after suffering a stroke in 2022.
The singer suffered a stroke while performing on stage at an event in Ndwedwe, and was rushed to hospital.
Earlier, he said that when he went to the event, he was suffering from a headache on one side.
“I think I did three songs, after that I felt dizzy. When I stopped, I could not feel my left leg. The foot was as if it was not there,” said L’vovo.
He disclosed that at first he thought that the problem was in his hip because he had braces installed in 2014, and he said that he was taken to Victoria Mxenge Hospital where they complained about his high blood pressure which he did not even know he had.
“Because of the life we live, we don’t go to check things like this. I remember being told that my BP is 250, I don’t know more than anyone else.”
On Sunday, videos of him speaking on Linda Sibiya’s program on Gagasi FM and another from Bishop Vusi Dube’s Ethekwini Community Church were spread.
Tears fell as he talked about when Dube prayed for him.
Yyenzi Qiniso Nzimande, who is famous on Facebook and is an event organizer, is one of those affected and launched a campaign to have L’vovo thrown into prison, who moved to Durban and returned to Newcastle.
He described the campaign as restoring hope to L’vovo.
“Please know that L’vovo has never asked for donations. Many people were affected by the conversation he had with Mr. Magic, from there, we chose to come together and support him. Many know, L’vovo had a bad car accident later and suffered a stroke. He is currently recovering but his other hand is not working well,” Yenziwe wrote.
He went on to say that because of his hand, he cannot return to work full time and even if he sings on stage, he gets tired quickly.
“If you want to donate, please do so to your heart’s content. Your donation will help defray the costs of his physiotherapy and recovery.”
He then entered L’vovo’s bank details.
It wasn’t long before people started throwing up. By noon yesterday, more than R42 000 had been donated.
When contacted, L’vovo said that he is busy with the doctor. After a while he was no longer available.
However, in a statement, he said he never thought that his life would change so quickly.
He said God gave him another chance and he chose to fight.
“I suffered a lot financially because I was unemployed and unemployed. I returned home. I was afraid to go out and be seen by people. My real friends came to cook for me and take care of me. I received many words of support. I was also abandoned by many people,” said L’vovo.
He said he was given a second chance in life.
“I live differently now. I eat well, I rest, I take care of myself and I am grateful for every day that God gives me. I am finally living the way I should have lived before I got sick.”
