The community of Kwandeni, Hammarsdale, has been left confused after the principal of Honqweni Primary was shot and killed brutally in the same area.

It turns out that the deceased, Mr. Phathokuhle Feliphutha Meyiwa (52), was attacked by unknown people in his home on Monday when they did not ask anything, they just opened fire and shot directly at him.

It is not clear why the principal who is a staunch member of the Mkhonto we Sizwe Party (MKP) was nominated.

Another MKP member who spoke to Solezwe, Mr. Zweli Mbeje, said that the one who died was the one who killed Meyiwa.

He said they still cannot believe that Meyiwa is no longer in the world. He described the deceased as a sincere man who valued his work and was passionate about his MKP party.

He said the incident left them with more questions than answers.
“We are still very disappointed about what really happened. We are all asking ourselves questions about this incident,” he said.

The brother of the deceased was called and he did not answer.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza, confirmed the incident. He said the police in the area were investigating the case after a man was shot dead by unknown people.

He said reports indicate that the man was found with several gunshot wounds. “For now, the purpose of his killing was not yet known,” he said.

The general secretary of the MKP, Mr. Sibonelo Nomvalo has recently revealed that nine of their members were running for the councilors to be killed.

Most of the accused are in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. Among those killed are Ms. Ncami Luthuli, Ms. Lindiwe Ntshangase, Ms. Phakanyiswe Blose, Mr. Sazi Cele, Mr. Mthokozisi Cele, Mr. Mzwakhe Dlamini, Mr. Siyabonga Mabaso and Mr. Mzwakhe Zungu.
