THE LEADERSHIP of the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has ordered the leadership of the NFP to stop taking pride in the Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislative Assembly, Ms. Nontembeko Boyce, following the NFP’s anger at the cancellation of the bid. the latter sacked the Minister of Social Development, Ms. Mbali Shinga.
The leadership of the ANC in the province was commenting after the leadership of the NFP lashed out at Ms. Boyceaccusing him of interfering in the internal affairs of the group.
The leadership of the NFP wrote to Ms. Boyce demanding that Ms. Shinga be expelled from being a member of the Legislative Assembly, but they again met with bullies.
Ms. Boyce said that she will not be able to fire Ms. Shinga as there is a decision of the High Court in Pietermaritzburg that prevents her from being fired as a member of the NFP.
The latest letter was written after a meeting of the NFP’s executive committee, where a decision was taken to dismiss Ms. Shinga’s request to challenge her dismissal.
The Secretary General of the NFP, Mr. Sunset Xaba, said that he left Ms. Boyce unknown, accusing her of interfering in the internal affairs of the NFP.
“The Speaker’s Office should not be biased. The Speaker’s Office must follow the rules. It is not the duty of the Speaker’s Office to judge whether the panel that decided to reject Ms. Shinga’s request followed all the party’s policies.”
Xaba also complained about the three groups that are part of the coalition government that is in charge of the province; the IFP, ANC and DA.
He said they will not cooperate with these groups again.
“We wish to say that the relationship we had with these groups is over.”
The spokesperson of the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr. Sifiso Sonjica, accused the NFP leaders of misleading the country.
Sonjica said that Ms. Boyce did nothing against the law.
Sonjica urged the NFP leaders to resolve their internal problems and stop tarnishing Ms. Boyce’s reputation.
“The Speaker’s Office should not be included in the internal disputes of political parties. That is why we ask the NFP to resolve their problems without dragging down the reputation of such an important office. We wish all political parties to protect the reputation and importance of the Office of the Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislative Assembly. We urge the NFP to resolve their internal problems, and not bring them to the Legislative Assembly.”
Efforts to oust Ms. Singa from office began in mid-2025.
These efforts took another step earlier this year when the NFP decided to expel Ms. Shinga from the party.
