The world health organization, the World Health Organization (WHO), has revealed that there are more than 1 billion people around the world who are living with diseases and conditions that interfere with mental functioning, most of them have the challenge of not getting the right help and support.
This is why the private health center, Affinity Health, has encouraged more open discussions about conditions that hinder the mind, looking at how the development of modern technology can help to improve the health situation and support the sick.
“Technology is changing and developing every day and modern technology can help support many people with mental retardation to be able to get help to improve their situation. However, technology needs to work to help those who are trained for this job, not to replace their job,” said Affinity Health CEO, Mr. Murray Hewlett.
The question is, can technology make people bored?
It is common for people with mental disorders such as anxiety, depression, trauma and burnout to not be quick to seek help to correct such conditions. Some of them are afraid of being judged, while others do not even realize that the signs of this situation are starting to show damage.
However, there are Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools that are currently being developed and prepared to be able to help assess such conditions in people, as some of them will be able to help monitor the way a person sleeps, the level of mental stress and other things related to that. All of that is intended to help encourage people to open up and talk freely about these situations that are bothering them.
Although AI technology will not help to cure these conditions by themselves, it seems that it will help those who have studied this work to find and monitor easily the signs that point to the problem, which is expected to prevent further damage.
How does AI help mental health facilities?
- By helping health workers organize the patient’s information in a way that will make it easier to monitor and manage it.
- By scheduling the patient’s medical appointments and reminding them to do so.
- Coming up with strategies that can help reduce stress in the mind.
- To help expand assistance programs that do not require the patient to go directly to the clinic.
“What is also very good is that technology can help if there are busy situations in health centers by reducing the pressure of clerical work that usually enslaves doctors, psychologists and social workers – which will help them to be able to deal with their work freely,” said Hewlett.
Health experts believe that AI technology will continue to grow and develop in the coming years and it also appears that the way it works can help to improve working conditions, including the early detection of such conditions that torture people mentally – which can have a positive impact in the future.
However, they emphasized that although AI will be useful, it is also important to emphasize that technology will not replace the need for health workers.
