The case of the Kurhuleni municipal officials who were suspended due to corruption in the Germiston Magistrate’s court has gone sour.

Former Ekurhuleni municipal manager Imogen Mashazi, suspended head of law Advocate Kemi Behari, suspended head of human resources Linda Gxasheka and Julius Mkhwanazi of EMPD (also suspended), are in court on charges of fraud and corruption.

Only Julius Mkhwanazi and Kemi Behari have been granted bail of R100 000 each. Despite this, Behari’s lawyer complained and the court revealed that the bail given to them is R100 000 each.

“We Lord of the court planned to pay R5000 as bail, but due to the seriousness of the cases, we can increase the amount to R30 000,” said Behari’s lawyer as the bail applications continued at the Magistrate’s Court in Germiston.

Mkhwanazi, on the other hand, said he could take a loan to pay the bail. During his bail application, Julius Mkhwanazi revealed that he is not married, he divorced his wife who is the mother of his three children in 2017. He also revealed that he has five other children with different mothers.

The court sympathized with them and reduced it to R50 000 per person, on the condition that they report to the police in Brooklyn, Pretoria every morning and afternoon until the end of the trial.

The former Ekurhuleni municipal manager Imogen Mashazi and the suspended head of labor Linda Gxasheka, their bail issue has not been discussed because the government complains about their many addresses that are not well understood.

They returned to the cell with the intention of continuing the trial on Friday.
