KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng are the two provinces that President Cyril Ramaphosa is targeting to carry the ANC in the upcoming local government elections.

Ramaphosa revealed that there are two provinces in which he is looking to get more votes.

He said this while speaking at the launch of the program for volunteers who will campaign for the ANC in the November elections.

Things are not going well for the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng as it escaped from KwaZulu-Natal in the 2024 national elections, and again failed to win in Gauteng.

In the largest municipality of KwaZulu-Natal, Theku, the ANC is ruling in collaboration with smaller parties as it failed to win by a landslide in the last local government elections.

The major municipalities in Gauteng, including Johannesburg, which is the center of the country’s economy, are jointly governed by the ANC.

Ramaphosa said they are looking to win in two states.

“Here in the ANC, we trust two provinces. There are two provinces that will carry us when there are elections. We are looking to the Eastern Cape and Limpopo to carry us in the elections. These are the provinces that will enable us to get 80% in the elections.”

Ramaphosa urged ANC members to strengthen the campaign as the election is in Mome.

Ramaphosa ordered ANC members to stand up for the problems people are complaining about.

“Most of the time, people complain about small things. When people see that ANC leaders stand up for their needs, they come out in large numbers to vote for us. People see that the ANC cares about their needs.”

Ramaphosa said they will present a list of election promises in October.

“In the list of promises, we will talk about the things people want. People want job opportunities. Many young people are unemployed. This is what we hear when we go into people’s homes and campaign. People ask us to create job opportunities. We want all people to get job opportunities.

“We will talk about how we will grow the economy. In order to create job opportunities, the economy must grow. We will build infrastructure. We will build dams and bridges. We will do many infrastructure projects.”

Ramaphosa urged the youth to register to vote.

“Many young people have not yet registered to vote. We must persuade them to register to vote. We are happy that many young people are registering to vote using technology, but we must also continue to persuade them to register to vote.”
